Hi all, hopefully this is the right section to post...
I am about to sell a car (race car) that is currently sorn to a buyer from Germany. Not worried about financials they will all be cleared before car is released. The question is what I do about V5. Do I simply fill in buyers details, with German address and send off to DVLA or do I need to notify them of permanent export?
Sorry if they sound like silly questions, never sold a car to a foreign buyer before.
Thanks in advance

Google is your friend:

If you’re taking a UK-registered vehicle out of the country for 12 months or more (also known as permanent export) you need to:

1.Tell DVLA by filling in the V5C/4 ‘notification of permanent export’ section of your V5C registration certificate (logbook).

2.Send it to DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1BD.

Someone will be along shortly with alternative advice because it's not you who's taking it out of the country.

As above, just declare it permanently exported. You will have no problems with it thereafter.

Wrong. Google is indeed your friend but you need to input the correct search criteria. There is a bit of a clue in your own words. wink

The right answer is on page 8 here - https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/167212/resp...
What to do if you are selling your vehicle privately to someone that does not have a GB address.

I had the same question earlier this year, sold a car to someone in Germany. I asked on here and got confirmation from Swansea with a phone call. The export part of the V5 is if you take the car abroard.

This is what I did:

Ensure you receive all funds for the the car then simply send off the whole V5 to the new owner, send a letter with the full details of the car explaining what you've done, who you you've sold it to (name address etc) to the DVLA. Mine was a road car and I took photos of the Odemeter with the final mileage on it got the person picking it up to sign that the current mileage was correct and that from that time/ date the car was his responsibility.

I sold a vehicle to a motor trader in the Nederland, I did as above, covering letter to DVLA & received confirmation letter back a week or so later. Just make sure you keep copies of everything.
