I keep getting a flat battery on the Range Rover, having been advised by RAC that battery (only bought a few weeks ago) and alternator are fine. On calling Land Rover main dealer, they asked whether I had any kind of new transmitter type thing in the house or garden and advised that they have a had a significant number of instances where owners (or neighbours) have recently fitted items such as electric gates, electric garage doors etc. and this has been the route of the problem. Apparently, rather than going into 'sleep mode', the alarm/immobiliser keeps getting re-awakened by the offending transmitter, thus draining the battery. The only thing I can possibly think of is an outside sensor to a weather station that I bought Mrs S for Christmas. Anyway, having turned off the sensor and recharged the RR I am now waiting until next weekend to see if this solves the problem.

Has anybody (those still awake after reading what has turned into a rather lengthy text - apologies for that) heard of anything similar? Is it only certain marks (presumably due to the frequency of their alarms) which suffer?

can you park the car somewhere else for a while to see if the problem goes away? like on the road, slightly further down the drive etc, there was a post on here recently about the same problem with another range rover IIRC it was something to do with a security light on the next door neighbours house

My old beta used to drain the battery after a couple of days unused. Removed and overhauled the fusebox and went on a mammoth contact / earth cleaning expedition. The battery lasted for months after that.

(unfortunately in the process of said overhaul I found burnt wiring courtesy of stupid welding monkey at last mot - car scrapped as a result).

Thanks for the advice!! If same problem occurs this weekend I'll take it over to the in-laws for a while and see what happens. The thing is, if I do discover that it's a neighbour's security light, new electric garage door etc, what can I do? Let's face it, they're not going to get rid of their new toy. Although I would presume frequency might be alterable in some of these things...

If it is wiring connected I think I'll have to bite the bullet and let LR have a look....
