Speaker Cable - suggestions?
Discussion
Having a house built at the moment and am going to get the living room wired for 5:1.
The speakers are probably going in the ceiling as I like the clean lines but may change this. However, regardless of that I need to get speaker cable installed during first fix in a month or so.
So the question is what speaker cable is best to use? Do I use any big standard type or should I be using anything specific?
Thanks!

IMO doesn't really matter, as long as you go for a decent wire cross section.
I'd recommend 2.5mm as a minimum, and have used Fisual Super Pearl in my walls because the insulation is so thick so don't have to worry about nicking the cable when pulling it through the wall.
Also heard good things about the Van Damme cables, and there's also a guy on AV Forums who will make up cables as needed who seems to be well regarded.

Strictly speaking, concealed cables should conform to building regulations. There are speaker cable specific for this purpose and they aren't overly expensive. Get a reel of QED LSZH speaker cable - it'll be about £80 for 100m...The speakers are probably going in the ceiling as I like the clean lines but may change this. I've had the QED stuff installed for a few years, great cable at a great price. stanwan said:

Isn't that only for cables carrying mains voltage?Gassing Station | Home Cinema & Hi-Fi | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
