When driving my Vantage V8 today on a long run, after about 120 miles the tyre fault system light randomly came on, after about 20 miles it went off, then around 180 miles into the journey, a "EMISSION SYSTEM, SERVICE REQUIRED" light has come on, I have tried turning the car on and off but it doesn't seem to go.

I have read various things on here, no-one has said it's a massive issue, but very annoying, the car is seldom used, done 3000 miles since the last service in February, is it definitely safe to keep driving it without causing Engine Damage?

I just hope I wake up tomorrow and it's gone.

Cheers.

I had the same thing happen on my car, it not nice to see but like you I found a load of posts about it and that it's a common issue. Mine went after a few days and hasn't returned since.

'EMISSION SYSTEM SERVICE REQUIRED' seems like a very common warning on the V8V. I've read elsewhere on here that it's really not a big deal and isn't doing any harm. It is annoying though!

I bought a cheap OBD reader (Google 'OBD U480') and have re-set it a few times. Sometimes it has come back after 2 days and sometimes it has stayed off for 2 months. Some people seem to find that the warning clears itself if you take the car for a decent jaunt.

Its almost normal sooner or later. As above, buy cheap OBD reader, keep in boot. Read error code and reset. Make a note of the code. If its the same code like a stuck lambda reading or high lambda etc then its likely an O2 sensor. There are 4. Just replace the faulty one, about £80 off ebay and DIY if you have ramps, or an hours labour down your local MOT garage

Bank 1 is driver side / cylinders 1-4
Bank 2 is passenger side / cylinders 5-8

Sensor 1 is upstream cat
Sensor 2 is downstream cat

common O2 sensor related codes, the OBD II diagnostics for the Vantage is downloadable somewhere, or some of us on here have them if you get stuck

If the light comes on again I'd advise you change the lambda sensor in question. In the last year the light on mine came on about 3 times. It always reset within about 10 drives but when it went in for service with Stratstone Derby they saw the light had been on and told me which of the 4 sensors was faulty. I bought a new one, fitted it and the light's not been on since. The engine now runs smoother as well.
