R500d Launch Control?
Discussion
Or lunch control?
Can anyone explain to me how to operate this?
The manual indicates the top left black button next to the stack dash - but this appears to do nothing.
I can twiddle the knob on the tunnel to select a number (I assume corresponding to approx. 1,000 revs).
I can then push and hold the knob and it seems to do a 3-2-1 countdown.
Launching after this didn't seem to make much difference - the rear wheels just spinning and the revs climbing until back-off / shift.
I should qualify that I was trying this at a sprint (i.e. not on the public road). Perhaps therein lies the problem. With two cars on track, we don't want to hang about too long after we see the green light. I was trying to anticipate this and pushing the twiddling knob but perhaps I was taking off a second to two after the 3-2-1.
Any advice would be gratefully received.

The numbers from twisting the knob dial in the amount of slip. You adjust them according to the surface conditions - wringing wet to bone dry. Select your number then select 1st gear with the clutch in and press the button then floor the throttle. The revs will hold as the countdown occurs then you drop the clutch and off you go with little, if any, wheel spin.
It's a tricky one to get right for a race or other timed start however.

I had this option on my White R500 with sequential quafife gearbox.
To be honest it does not do that much!
It's more of a power slip control than it is proper launch control.
Best thing I found was to play about with the most extreme settings, and see what each one does to the effect of a full power launch!
If any one is interested I still, have a brand new control unit ecu, with the complete loom, level indicator and rotary control knob, that I want to sell.
If you have an R500 Duratec, this unit just plugs into the spare plug under the dash, but you do need to ensure your mbe ecu has launch control enabled!
Open to sensible offers if any one wants it.!
