Just signed up for the next one on 16th December. Has anyone done one there.

I'm a newbie to all this having never done a track day in my own car. I don't want to rag it, just want the opportunity to go fast and enjoy the car.

Any tips for a track day virgin?

Check tyre pressures before you go. When was the last time the geometry was done? If over a year seriously consider getting the geo done, makes a huge difference and a much more enjoyable experience when pushing along

Its an airfield, you'll be fine. just warm up and take things steady and work up to it. take time to warm the engine and gearbox too.

Brake purposely and do not ride the brakes, don't do standing starts, get the clutch out and car rolling before booting it.

In between sessions park up with no handbrake, leave it in gear.

Been to Abingdon a few times, the MSE guys are a great bunch so just listen to the briefing and take it from there. Ed runs/ran the Aston days at Millbrook btw, he can pedal ever so quickly.

Worth checking your oil at some point during the day, they have a section of the runway available for a cool down, so take slow potter down and back to let everything calm down.

The instructors are also top notch so well worth a session mid morning with one of them.

Watch out for the first session after lunch, everyone is full of pies and a bit dopey, same for the last session of the day, some go a little nuts as the day gets towards it's close. I don't go out beyond 4pm personally, it's more tiring than you think.

Keep your sessions down to 15 minutes or so for the same reason, easier on you and the car.

Thanks all - very useful.

I guess I will have to keep fuse 22 (15 in mine) closed to avoid upsetting the noise police.

Shame.
