Vehicle technician to bodyshop met technician

Has anybody changed from a dealership mechanic / technician to a bodyshop met technician ?
I have seen a few vacancies locally but are generally email only applications for a large insurance based company,
Would I be better off speaking to a bodyshop at the coal face to see if my skills transfer or if I would require additional training beforehand, I don't really know for sure so any help is appreciated
