Advertising on car forums.

Does anyone here sell products commercially via car forums?

I am considering going this route, however it looks expensive and all you really seem to get is 'free reign' to post in a specific section of the forum that nobody ever looks in, evidenced by the fact that all the posts in these 'sponsor' or 'vendor' areas have about 10 views and zero replies.

Is this really an effective way to promote your products, or is it exactly what it looks like, a complete waste of time and money?

Sometimes it can be helpful if it is a busy forum and the mods help you out with recommendations as a "trusted seller", but otherwise not much use unless you are active on the forums too.

Depends what you're selling. If it's relevant to the audience and you get yourself known, for the right reasons, then it can work very well. If it's marginal, there are probably better ways to spend your budget.
