The lights are Zertec jobbies, fitted them myself (see current cars on my profile) still waiting for the proper connectors though, they're currently bodged together with spade connectors and insulation tape

Any more comments gratefully received

Wow - did you do all the bodywork repairing yourself? In your profile it looks pretty damaged....Nice job!!
Is that really a 1999 Chimaera in pic 2? - looks like the front end of a pre-serpentine decatted Griff to me

I am very impressed, that is one good looking car, even more so after I looked at your profile and saw the shape it was in.

Did you do all the work yourself?

and I hope you come on the Surrey run, as I would love to see it in the flesh.

Yeah we've been through this before (long time ago though) I was considering buying the griff in the picture or the Chimaera, trouble is I've lost the photo of the chim  (they we're in almost exactly the same condition) I left that one in just to give an idea of initial condition really, I ought to add an explanatory note.

I did all the glass work (fitting new front end, rebuilding back, adding the Zertec lights and most of the filling) Got a local body shop to do the final skim of filler and paint. The photos are pretty good, the paint finish is actually fairly shocking as you'll see (hopefully) on Sunday

I am very, very impressed with that car. It looks fantastic and you have now given me an idea Not quite sure how you managed to rebuild it so well from what it looked like. I have a mate who is a dab hand with filler, hopefully that will sort it out.

Could you provide any more details on how you managed to do that? Because I know a place with a few nice broken TVR's that I may well visit if I think I can manage it

Any info is appreciated, including financial if that's not too personal. Cheers Matey.

Thanks chaps, really positive

Moleamol,

Parts are usually very reasonable, 'cause they're fitted to other cars (indicators Fiesta, wing mirror Citroen (sorry, XJ220 )) and the glass work is cheap, but very time consuming, I guess one of the reasons why the buy/fix/sell brigade aren't too interested, so an enthusiast has half a chance

The main cost was a new front end £1500, odds and sodds £200 on wheels £100 on a new hub and steering arm, some rear lights (same as military land rover (free if you've a mate who breaks off roaders))

Fibreglass is cheap as chips £20 for 2 litres of resin, (I used 4lt) Glass matting the same £30 tops probably around £50 on filler

I reckon it's come in at around £15k, not bad for a "T" plate with 11,000 miles on it Although I've put in some time, and I wouldn't get much more than (I'm guessing, I don't want to sell it (unless there'se a crash damaged Tuscan anyone knows about ??)) £17k for it as it's on the insurance register

Best of luck with whatever you decide to do, I'm of the opinion that if it's knackered when you get it, you'll find it fairly hard to make it worse. I know that doesn't work for everyone though

Right, it's a sunny evening, guess what I'm going to do

Excellent!

I'm still waiting for my Zertec S12 conversion to be completed (via Peninsula). I should be getting it real soon, in fact it should be getting painted right now. I hope it looks as smart. Mine is Montreal Blue - it would have been Cascade Purple but the cost was, er, a bit prohibitive.

I'm gonna have to ring tomorrow and see how it's coming on!

Lovely!

Phil,

I'm shure you won't be disappointed, IMHO, they really bring the car up to date, not to mention looking the dogs dangly bits, as I didn't drive with the old style lights at night, I can't comment on the improvement in visibility, but neither style works when you're going sideways

Thanks for the help. I'm not sure what to do yet, but the place I'm talking about has a Tuscan, they are actually a breakers and as I wasn't really considering it when I was there (getting bits for my integrale) I'm not sure how bad the cars are, so I will need to investigate.

I think the thing with yours that made me so interested is it just looks so good, it looks brand new, and them lights really do look the part. I will investigate further and if I go ahead I'll let you all know

Yep thats a top job youve done there.

This needs to be done more often as it just shows the Insurance write off brigade that it dont cost that much to do.

Nice wax job. ooooohhhhh sssssshhhhiiiiiiiinnnneey

Someone was having a go on another thread once about spoiling a potential classic by having a conversion. I think Ben has proved beyond all doubt that
a/ it certainly ain't spoiled
b/ you really can pick up an endless supply of new bodywork in tins at Halfords!

There are some handy andys about now, what with Ben the fibreglass wizard and chris with his leather work. I'm coming over all inspired!

Thanks for the helpfull advice

Yeah, the photos don't show it but I've got a world of polishing to do, there's overspray all over the shop, and whenever I go above, ermm 68, I get covered in fibreglass dust.

Everyone at work thinks I've gone grey overnight

The finish is actually pretty bad

Sun coming in from about 10 o-clock, covers a world of minor blemishes
