Track day noise limits

Hi guys,

I hope someone can help. I'm booked into a track day at Donnington soon and it has a 98Db limit. I have just had some sports back-boxes fitted and obviously the car is much louder now () and I am worried it may not pass the noise tests.

Has anyone had their Cerb tested/run at Donnington with sports exhausts?

It's a 97 4.2 by the way.

My Sp6 on standard exhausts measures 98.5 so would be amazed if you pass at 98dB!!!

I have sports exhuast and the read out was 112db you will need trackday mufflers . ask the people you organised with if they have them to hire or has donnington got them. other than that you will need to borrow them or buy them.

OK, cheers guys. I was told by the fitter it wouldn't be a problem but after hearing them I thought it might be!!

Has anyone tried the Supertrapp ones? Or are there any other recomendations?

So apart from a track, where's the best/easiest place to get your car measured? I'd hate to turn up at a circuit to find the car is too loud!!

My ACT ones bring me down by about 5 to 7 dB depends where/weather/who's measuring etc, obviously depends where you start from. Ask Tim, they are neat but not the type you can stuff full of wire wool!

Also depends on your cams, I had the old "clatter" cams taken out and the newer Turks put in, brought it down by 4 dB.

You can always tell them your red line is at 3,500 revs as it is a diesel, make sure it's running cold so you get a lot of clatter from the front!

The problem is while some tracks do a static measurement that you could replicate, others measure the drive-by noise which would be much harder to replicate.

Bookatrack will rent their noise meter to you. However, you can buy the same one from Maplins. It's £34.99 at the moment, but I've got a feeling I only paid £20.

Supertrapps worked fine when I had a 4.5. You can make them quieter or louder depending on the number of elements you fit.

Still have them so perhaps I should post an advert?
