Hello.

I'm just looking at what cars are cheap near me and the Fabia/Ibizas look like a fair buy in terms of kit.

I'm wondering how reliable the 100 hp 1.4 16v engines are though.

Googling they appear to have a number of problems, but I don't know if that's just because it's a common engine.

There's people talking about pinking and stalling issues among others.

I'm also wondering how reliable the PD130 engines are in 2015. I know they had a good reputation, but if I'm looking at 2006, 2007 cars, is that still the case?

the only Fabia you get with the PD130 is the vRS and they aint cheap.
Most sellers are still asking over £5K for a 2006 example.

Then again you might be a millionaire and £5K is just pocket money wink

Yeah I spotted that. Ibizas with the PD130 come in much cheaper from what I can see.

Had the arosa with 1.4 100bhp, nice engine and suited the light car. Took it over from my mum who only did short journeys only and did a 25 mile commute for a year in it (42-45mpg). oil consumption can be bad on them - its possibly they will have been run low on oil. Mine went from a litre every 500 miles to a litre every 2000 miles over that year, with an Italian tune up and proper long runs. Ran beautifully otherwise, though this was from 47-67k, so hardly a high mileage car. If you find one that's been looked after they should be fine. She replaced it with a Fabia vRS 130 and that been reliable too. Completely different character between the engines though one is reasonably free revving and the other is a crude wall of tractor like torque.
