How does the gear knob come off?

How do I remove the leather gear knob, off a 996 ?
Doesn't unscrew.

It just pulls off on the 996 with brute force. On the 997 there is a little bit that twists before then applying some muscle to pull.
Be careful of your face..

Edit to add. If that is your photo. Screw the gearshift housing back on to the car first.

Thank you, was a case of just pulling off. Just frightened of breaking something. Getting peed off with this now, I wish it was all left standard
