New to Porsche!

I’ve just placed a deposit on a 2010 997.2 Carrera 4 Coupe from my local Emirati OPC here in Dubai (Al Nabooda) – it came up just under my budget and has accumulated just 25,000km on the clock since first reg in February 2010.

It’s white with a (very dark) blue leather interior, titanium grey Carrera Sport 19s, PDK, PSE, Sport Chrono Pack+, Sports Seats+ and PCM Nav 3.0 (whatever that is). I’m super happy with the spec as I’m not one for having ‘all the toys’ (just more stuff to go wrong in my view, as well as more cost): I just wanted to get the basics right: sports exhaust, decent seats, chrono pack, colour.

I was originally looking for a manual 2S, but a manual is pretty unusual down here (in fact I didn’t see any at all in the last month or so of searching), and when I saw the 4S, I just fell for the wide body and red strip.

It also means that if we ever return home to Finland (and assuming I take it with me), I’ll be able to run the car more easily in winter (most of my cars to date have been AWD, but not SUVs). I’m going to have to get used to running the PDK: this’ll be my first car with an automated gearbox; are there any tricks to ensure you don’t just stick it in D and slob around, brain in neutral?

As for modifications/upgrades, I’m going to have to start driving the car, learning how it feels, before doing much. The first thing will will be to get a full independent inspection and major service/overhaul (with fresh fluids, belts, plugs etc.) and second, to retrofit the steering wheel with the flappy paddles instead of the buttons.

All the best from the Sandbox

Congrats - it sounds like a nice car. Post some pics up when you get the chance.

Have a look at the Sharkwerks bypass, so you can hear the exhaust better.

Having just bought a gen 1 turbo and getting it back from a major service at Al Nabooda today all I can say is just avoid the indie just yet. With the car being Porsche approved it will have a warranty. Going to an indie will void the extended warranty if the indie is not Porsche approved and I'm not sure if the best indie in the region, ARM is or not.

I just say that as I'm looking at a 30k+ AED bill which is luckily all covered by warranty.

If you do want to give the car a once over to see what might need done I'd def recommend ARM for an inspection. I took several cars there for inspection. Most without warranty and the work needing done offset the cost of getting a car with warranty by a long shot!

Thanks, I was planning to get an independent report from ARM for my own peace of mind (my colleague runs a 997T and has been happy with them), but as you say, the car does have the OPC 12 month warranty, so I may need to rethink my strategy on preventative maintenance.

thanks, I'll be wandering over shortly

PS I only chose the username MaxA because Marcus Grönholm used to have the special stage/full power button in his rally cars marked 'MaxA' for Maximum Attack and that appeals to my sense of humour

I'd love to but the the "Upload an image (beta)" link does not work. I have never found it an issue on any other forum to simply and easily upload photos from my PC (I can't be arsed to set up another external website just to host a few pictures of a Porsche), so why is PH still in the dark ages? Is there any thing simpler?

Thanks for this; I've just read the Sharkwerks 9972 guide and it looks like there's some interesting stuff to do, as well as some interesting stuff not to do - including the cold air intake and manifolds.

I'll be looking at the centre silencer in due course (let's see how loud the PSE actually is in real life), but I was most interested in the TechArt retrofit paddle shifters to the standard steering wheel buttons. Does any one have any experience of this?

Congratulations! I had a C4S and was very happy with it. PDK wheel with paddles is certainly the best first mod! Sadly you lose heated steering wheel, but that will only be an issue when you go back to Finland wink

Nice pictures! Mine is white too, primarily because of the heat. You guys have great rims! I'm not quite sure about the Porsche Carrera Sports on my car - they look a bit like Minilites.

As indicated above, I was looking for a manual, but now I'll have to save that for the weekend special (TBD) and the summer car now languishing in the garage at home.

I've swapped some emails with Sharkwerks and the exhaust mod will be on the way soon enough; in the meantime, does anyone have any experience with the TechArt paddleshift retrofit kit?

Hi Max.

We have the sharkwerks bypass pipes in stock in the UK and can export to UAE no problem. If you want a price just drop me a message. I have one on my 997 GTS and they sound epic!
