Spectacular but still normal?
Discussion
Well I had the most amazing day of my life yesterday when my wife gave birth to our baby daughter at 07:45 (all healthy and well).
Sitting at home last night cleaning and tidying ready for their homecoming today it occurred to me - this was the single most traumatic, heartrenching, joyful & pleasurable thing I've ever been through - completely emotionally draining. But yet people do this every day and in a way it's perfectly normal and common.
So to a thought I often have when in planes - there's a whole world out there of spectacular things that happen all the time.
So what did you do that was spectacular but normal?
off to grin & cry a bit more
Congratulations on your new addition! You sound so happy. All the best.
Spectacular and yet normal?
Well, I guess recently I have gone through what many many people have to deal with - cancer. Normal? Maybe not, but extremely common.
I was only diagnosed with it a week or so ago, and yet last night I was told they have got it all, and I am officially cancer-free.
I have had one week's taster of sadness, stress, sympathy and scans, operations and treatment, utter joy and relief. And it has been a huge rollercoaster.
And yet it was only a week, and I am fine. All of a sudden I have a HUGE amount of respect for those who are really sick. They are the bravest people out there and yet they get on with their lives, look after their children and carry on regardless.
I think they are amazing.

It may happen to thousands of people daily, but the arrival of your first child only happens to YOU once!
Enjoy the thrill, and get set for the rest of the ride. It may be bumpy but it'll be worth it!
PS your lovely lady deserves a special gift for the spectacular service she has just rendered
A small Caribbean island would be the right ballpark to start thinking of!

Funily enough one of the doctors suggested something very similar except that he always thought a DB9 made a good birth present. Well we had quite good chat as Nickie held our daughter and the 3 of us chatted about nice cars as a present for our daughter.
Seriously now I'm off into town to look for something special...
