Not being mentioned much in the British media but a fairly amazing win for the Republic of Ireland last night (1-0). May not be good enough to enable them to qualify for the Euro finals though.

All over Talksport this morning, Eric. Apparently, Ireland had 18% possession. Still, if the ROI fail to qualify, you can support the Northern Irish lads. smile

A great result for the Republic - and being a ST holder at St Mary's, particularly pleasing to see a Saints boy bag the winner.

I watched the second half - some fantastic defending by RoI and a great goal on the break.

fking lucky though - Germany were woeful in front of goal with enough clear cut chances to win the game.

Still, a brilliant win!

Handy win really. We were never really under that much pressure. Pegged them back and left them have the ball in the non danger area's. Now to beat France by 50 or 60 points on Sunday.

If the Republic don't make it I'll be supporting NI. I still remember their 1982 World Cup campaign with fondness.

Watched this last night, enjoyable game to watch as a neutral, but Germany really should have won it at a canter. As already said some woeful finishing and one attack would have resulted in goal of the season if Shürrle could have hit a cows arse with a banjo biggrin

ROI defended well and Oshea seemed to forget he plays for Sunderland and actually had a decent game. Long took his goal well when the chance appeared.

Despite the fact Ireland aren't the best. We're only a point behind Germany and could still finish second. C'mon lads, I want to go to France 2016!!

Well done, a great result and in 20 years, people will not remember the possession, just the scoreline. Hope you qualify by beating Poland!

What's with the negativity?

Best we can do is finish top of the table if Germany lose. Highly unlikely, but then you'd have said the same about last night smile

A win, or 2-2 draw (or better) with Poland gets us 2nd place and auto-qualification.

A loss, or a 1-1 draw gets us into the play-offs. Hungary will get the 1 auto-qualification spot, so we'll have to go via the play-offs.
