VW Recall, Compensation? Recall ? What the hell for!
Discussion
My wife's Eos is on the list of Vin numbers to be recalled, the first thing is I had it remapped get much better economy (70mpg) and power 190 bhp it's running perfect so I won't be getting it altered by Vw.
But what's all the crap about compensation? I don't deserve any! The only people that can claim compensation are the government as they are the only ones that have lost out financially due to under paid road fund licence?
If this compensation business gets out of hand thousands of people will lose their livelyhoods.

I'm not saying that people SHOULD be compensated, but...
With the knee-jerk reaction to this, resale values will be affected as less people will desire a 2nd hand Passat (for example) and values will drop.
Of course, when you buy a car, there's no guarantee as to what it will be worth at the end of your ownership, and therefore it's a risk we all take, but residual values will affect private buyers, and the companies that run PCP schemes.

I bought my 2012 1.6 Greenline Superb brand new as I do a decent mileage every year and I wanted to get the most efficient large car I could. If Skoda alter it and the result is a less efficient car then I won't be happy. I had planned to keep the car a long time so I would end up out of pocket year after year because VAG lied.
Sounds like a convincing argument for compensation to me.

"Under paid road fund licence"? The 'cheat' was to reduce NOx output, butroad fund licence cost is based on CO2, so where does the 'under paid' come from?.But what's all the crap about compensation? I don't think there will be any compensation. However what I worry about is what those changed settings will do to our cars longevity - EGR, DPF etc.
In my mind the car was built to meet certain requirements and whatever this software is going to do will change them so how do I know the rest of the car is going to handle it. I heard reducing Nox can somehow put more strain on the EGR. Don't know enough about it to be honest.

Just received a letter from SEAT, informing me that my car will be recalled for attention, as it's one of the vehicles effected, Toledo 1.6tdi. Have read elsewhere that it will be injectors and 'cheat' removed from ECU, ECU only on 2lt engine. Car will be on 85k at this point, so new, free of charge, injectors will be welcome.
Re, the above comments, I thought the cheat only worked when on 'test conditions', so wont the normal running conditions stay the same as they are now, and not effect the rest of the components ?

My Passat 1.6 tdi (12/2013) was valued by we buy any car on 19/09 at £10900 ( I was getting an idea what its worth as I have a new car on order.)
Out of interest I did another valuation with we buy any car on 12/10 same mileage. Value £10375.
So in just over 3 weeks , my VW has lost £525.
At this age it would normally lose £200 a month.

Why would your car be worth less due to this recall? You could argue it might be worth more as if compensation is paid to current owners! If as a result it does less mpg why touch it? Can't understand why Vw are not arguing that under exam conditions it does what it says on the tin! Immoral maybe but illegal- No! An apology for misleading is all that's required.

The cheat condition reduces Nox emissions, the rest of the time you drive the car you will have power. The ECU map will reduce the nox output of the engine all the time, by doing this the performance of the engine will be reduced. The recall will potentially reduce engine power and maybe MPG. There is talk of installing adblue systems also to some models.Re, the above comments, I thought the cheat only worked when on 'test conditions', so wont the normal running conditions stay the same as they are now, and not effect the rest of the components ?
