Yesterday I went to renew (online) my number plate on retention (v750) document. Usually the fee is £25.00 per annum. This time it was free.

Have I missed something? Or is it a computer glitch?

They changed the rules earlier this year in march I believe (just after I renewed mine in Feb!) and it is now not only free but I think the retention lasts for 10 years too.

If I remember rightly they've changed the retention side of things so the £80 to put a plate on retention now lasts for 10 years or something like that. I assume that if you put your plate on retention less than 10 years ago they're reflecting the change by not charging you anything.

I think the DVLA has been taken over by an alien race recently. They turned around my reg change in 3 days including sending out the new V5. Something is afoot.

yes

I had a new licence (change of address) turned around in 2 weeks, and a V5C address change in only 18 days. Definitely an improvement.

DWP have a free post address, always found this strange as not all gov departments have them.

Seems strange the DVLA would give away something for free that people are used to paying.
