Anybody know and decent pubs, that do good food, just outside nottingham.. not talking about gourmet £100 per calamari jobs here.. just a decent pub lunch, with a nice atmosphere..

country pub in a village/small town in the area would be fine..

we're meeting some friends around nottingham (it's a halfway town), but I imagine driving into the centre/parking would be a right bugger.. and we have no real need to go right into the city...

thanks all..

Halfway between God's own county and Birmingham. I know which way I'd rather be going

the ferry inn at wilford in west bridgford comes highly recommended for food and beer. as for atmosphere it's a low ceilinged old fashioned type of place and it's part of the chef & brewer chain (not been in a bad one of them yet )

see here for a map and here for a bit of info about the place

edit: it's about 10 minutes from jct24 (M1)

Depends how far out you might consider but near M1 J24 is the village of Shardlow which, being lined along what used to be the A6, offers a Chinese, a Thai, an Indian, 4 theme type places with various ownership and, if you turn off the main road a short distance, 2 adjacent pubs (Malt Shovel and New Inn) alonside the canal. Just before you get into the village proper, if approaching from the East, a short distance from the main road is the Crown Inn (?) which used to be a lunch regular haunt when I worked locally.

So much choice it's difficult to choose and all have plenty of parking usually.

If it's not too far out and is of interest I can provide a more detailed list of what is where along the road. Mail me via profile as a prompt.

I'd agree with Minimax. The Ferry at Wilford is excellent.
