I know of a person that drink drives quite often (not pi55ed but over the limit), if I phone up 101 and tell them that I know he drinks drives but I have no proof, I can give you his reg number.

Is a marker automatically put against his reg number on ANPR?

Force specific. Sometimes yes but sometimes no depending on what system is in place. It will be operational info what goes on ANPR and what doesn't.

Ring crime stoppers 0800 555 111

They will create intelligence report and pass to local police/traffic unit

How do you know he's over the limit?

Drinking 4 cans of larger would suggest to me that he would be over the limit, what do you think?

It depends. Maybe. Probably worth reporting though.

"Can I have 4 large cans of larger please"

"Don't you mean lager?"

"Ok, can I have 4 lage cans of lager please"

"Don't you mean large?"

Because he's obviously over the limit. And that's against the law, and an impaired driver. I have seen people way way over the limit (two ways there, so very way) but they spoke rationally and their balance didn't appear to be overly affected. Their reactions when driving a car? No idea, but they were way over the limit.

Ok, so a friend of your family comes to your house and knocks back 4 cans in an hour. Let's be generous and say it's 4% and 330ml cans.

Are you happy for them to drive with you wife/daughter/mother right away?

Something the matter with your net curtains OP?

If you feel the need to police the populace of the UK, then why not go buy yourself a uniform and properly pretend to be a member of her majesty's constabulary?

Even better, why not sign up to be a police officer and nick the individual concerned?

Alternatively, you could stop curtain twitching (lest someone returns the favour) and leave such matters to those who are properly qualified and empowered to deal with such situations.

ETA....with "good" citizens like yourself the state can do away with the BIB and CCTV. Save millions by getting your subjects to inform on each other. Doesn't matter whether you've got proof or not, just stick your oar in and cause trouble for others. After all, it's no bother for you (unless and until someone does the same to you).

4 x 330ml cans of 4% beer in a 180lb man over an hour would according to a back-of-the-envelope calc, put them just >under< the drink drive limit.

FFS, unless he's obviously incapable of driving, MYOFB and leave him to the powers that be. IT IS NOT YOUR PROBLEM. The country employs people do deal with such situations. Leave it to them to do their job.

Unless they're rolling around the floor obviously incapcitated, then yes I'm happy.

Why? 'Cause it's none of my fking business and it's not my job to keep tabs on my fellow citizens to ensure they're complying with my particular interpretation of the law.

Its no bother for the guy drinking if he's stopped, tested and passes is it?

If he fails and gets locked up great, one less drink driver on the roads.

I really dont see the issue, the OP is concerned and is doing the right thing.

You do realise the police rely on the public giving intel and evidence dont you?
