Just had a similar problem when I try to COPY a document from the scanner it locks up, however when I scan the document it's OK. I have been informed that the PC needs more memory.

Probably no help but a simular experience meant having to plug the scanner into the laptop after booting up (USB). Still wouldn't work right but after a fasion etc.

Unplug the scanner.

Uninstall the driver.

Install the driver

Reboot

Plug in the scanner.

I know it's the "bl33din' obvious" but it is the correct and latest driver that you've downloaded?

...and have you googled and searched for any known problems...

(just a thought)

driver came from HP's own site along with the avaiable updates so its a googling i go then

cant understand all this though as it used to work ok till the new hard drive was installed could there be a problem hardware wise ie somthing not connected correctly internal to the tower ??

Is your PC a Dell?

Some (or all?) Dells may not supply enough power to their USB to work the scanner which may result in lock ups.

In that exact order?

If you had the scanner plugged in when you installed the driver Windows is now very confused and it will never work...
