What do we think of that?
For playing some video games and streaming it to the internet, coining in $millions is literally the most insane thing I have ever seen. If some other life form were to come here and see this they'd think we're all mad. Earlier in the week there was some report about a bloke who plays lots of Minecraft buying a $4million house. What?! For playing a game and putting it on YT. Madness! I see Schmee has just bought a new Ferrari FF? or F12? great...for basically shaky cam footage of other super car owners driving their cars.
This kind of thing makes me feel like a bit of a mug for having spent years learning and training to do something worth while. I should have stuck to playing computer games!
It also must be a bit gutting for those on YT that do produce what you might call "quality" or "premium" content. People like the folks at Drive or Chris Harris or Jared Polin, Trey Ratcliffe, Tested.com etc. I remember CH on cars basically went away when it was on the Drive channel because it cost money to produce their videos and they weren't getting the revenue back in from ads to cover it. Streaming minecraft costs nothing but time.
Even footballers and bankers (those two most hated professions by many) have to have some level of skill, intellect and/or physical exertion to earn their crust and arguably they still present clear benefit to society; For all their ills, the bankers do make the country a boat load of money and whilst many think footballers are overpaid, they do at least get people out of their houses and even inspire some to get active and become sportsmen themselves. Sitting at a desk building virtual 3D blocks whilst talking in a silly voice for a couple of hours isn't even money for old rope. Its money for nothing.

big bucks for making videos about playing with kids toys and becoming a multi-millionaire for putting up videos about opening kinder suprise eggs! Ludicrous! Video game commentary seems to be the thing to do!

I can see why the likes of Pewdiepie will have people foaming at the mouth, but how many of these millionaire Youtubers started out hoping that, within a few years, they'd be raking it in. It's all about being in the right place at the right time; doing something that you love, in your spare time, becoming your living and earning a s

They drag in money from advertising, ad in a way aren't in control of the money that piles up, but I'm sure they aren't too worried about it.
If you want to make money on youtube, all you need to do is put up videos that people will watch.
It is a shame to see Roman Atwood up there though... constant staged pranks between him and his missus, and you'd think by now they'd have got used to it, considering they "prank" each other every week.

Remember, that's only in your opinion that it is worth watching, and this is a motoring site which is going to be biased towards it.If you want to make money on youtube, all you need to do is put up videos that people will watch.

I did see the one where he pranked his missus that her son blew up on a run-away quad bike. That one was doing the rounds on FB. Theres pranks, then theres that. Totally tasteless. They drag in money from advertising, ad in a way aren't in control of the money that piles up, but I'm sure they aren't too worried about it.

How's it different to the thousands of TV or radio talkshow personalities who do "nothing" but talk, earning millions? That's been going on for decades and no one bats an eyelid. They're a bunch of people who found an entirely new way of earning a living and exploited it to their advantage. 10 billion views? Fair play to them, well done. No sour grapes from me.
Little point in getting upset about something that doesn't materially affect you in any way, or insulting those people and the millions of fans who enjoy their content.
Green is never a flattering colour.
Plus I like green, I have a very nice green jumper thanks. I am wearing it now.
I'll freely admit to being green with envy.... If only I hadn't listened to my mother when she shouted at me to stop playing video games as "it'll never get you anywhere". Granted I would have probably been too early for the boat if I'd done that and gone by the wayside like FPS Doug and his Counterstrike videos.

Yes but very few people want to watch Chris Harris videos because they are special interest and dull. Millions of people (children) want to watch the minecraft you tubers . They are good at what they do, they produce loads of good content appropriate to their target audience. Kids love it and learn all about minecraft from watching it.
They are making money because enough people enjoy the content they are producing.

How clever do you think plastic dog s

Monetise stupidity, job jobbed. It isn't a new concept.

Being interesting and engaging enough to attract millions of viewers on youtube isnt easy. Very few do it well.
pewdiepie has 39million followers and ten billion total views!
And yet I can't stand to watch/listen to him for more than a second, though I think his demographics are probably not even provisional license holders. pewdiepie has 39million followers and ten billion total views!
There are plenty of people I watch on YouTube though that are very entertaining and I can see why they deserve to make money off it even if I'm often amazed that they manage to.

fair play to them though, they are not hurting anyone and if they can rake it in then good for them.
