Just toying with the idea instead of a RRS to replace my aging Disco 2. I don't need 7 seats and the load space would be useful. But is it a viable proposition as a private vehicle? What about the glazing too.

Any thoughts, experiences, likely costs and tax insurance implications etc.

Not sure regarding tax and costs etc., but my parents' neighbour had one and loved it. He had the rear bench fitted and his three kids went in the back without any bother at all. Seemed pretty good to me!

I have a commercial and got my rear seats from here.

http://www.scotseats.co.uk/commercialseats.htm

They rattle a bit when no-one is sat on them but you can wedge support behind to stop most of the rattles. They send you the seat and the fitter turns up and fits them. Piece of cake.

In order to please the tax man they must be this style of seat, not Disco seats bought from a scrappy.

Are you putting it through a business and having the car as a company car? If not all you are going to save is a few hundred quid a year on road tax, which for the sake of putting up with a bench seat that rattles I would go for the normal Disco. If it is a company car/van then go for it.

Mine is up for sale in 6 months when my next one is delivered...

ETA: Having read your post again what exactly do you want? The title says Disco Commercial and then you talk about a RRS???

Thanks for your reply Sixpackpert. I'm just exploring possibilities at the moment. It is not going to be used for business purpose. I have no need for seven seats and was thinking that the rear load space would be more robust in a converted commercial than a standard Disco. I was also wondering if there would be any significant saving to be made purchasing a commercial either converted or convert it myself over a standard model of similar ages and mileage. From what I have seen on Auto Trader that don't look very likely.
An obvious alternative is a RRS but the Disco tend to offer better value for money.

The loadspace in the commercial is 10mm ply. All good except don't kneel on the hatch that covers the spare wheel release as it will simply push all the screws out of the frame and fall through, done it on mine.

My commercial was 38k + Vat in July last year. Had it valued last month with 24,000 miles on it and the dealer would give me 30k + VAT for it.

The back side windows have plastic blanks on them and rear door windows are glued shut and have the plastic blanks on them. All the blanks can be removed though.

To be honest I would find a normal Disco as the bench seats are only fine for short journeys.
