I learnt to squat using the pad and I find it a very good exercise, unfortunately I get a lot of stick for using it.

The problem is without the pad I can't squat 40kg without feeling like I am about to explode, the pain from the barbell on my back is too intense.

Yet I can put the pad on and squat double that without thinking about it.

My friends tell me to man the fk up, and it is a little embarrassing when I finish squatting and an average build girl comes over and takes the pad off before doing her set.

Is there something a miss with my back or am I being a pussy?

I'd ditch it, but if it helps, just keep it smile

Where exactly/what type of pain are you experiencing when you squat without the pad?

Like I'm being stabbed I suppose, only with a blunt and very heavy instrument. Crushed almost.

I'm also not keen on squatting without some sort of cushioning. Used to fold a towel over my shoulders but now use a pad. I work out at home though so no real issue. If it helps use it, fk everyone else.

Is the bar definitely on your back and not your neck? That pain doesn't sound good, get the same if you foam roll it?

As didley said, the important thing is to keep squatting!

Sounds like the bar might be too high up your spine. Try it a little lower.

I did this today thanks, it felt better but also felt like it was going to fall off my back.

I'll get some tuition to check my form.

Thanks.

Periodically, I use a manta ray. I have used a foam thing (best for the bear), I also use just my traps.
Squeeze those traps hard together to make the ledge, and the bar rests on the ledge. Makes the back solid.
