Red 500 at Fernhurst

Hello,

I've put a deposit on the red 500 up for sale at Fernhurst. Going to collect next week. Does anyone know the car, any former owners on here? Cosmetically she needs a bit of TLC, I'm hoping mechanically all is good and well.

Dealt with Graham there and he has been very helpful so far. Seem like a good company to do business with.

Any comments, pointers welcome.

Oh and it'll be my first foray into ownership ten years aftert joining PH!!

I saw that advertised at a great price for a 5 litre, though there was no mention of their usual 1 or 2 year warranty.

No warranty, as it hasn't passed through their usual workshop process
I'm really looking forward to picking her up!

Just in case the OP isn't familiar with Chimaera badges, the 450s and 500s normally have "450" and "500" respectively on the bottom of the badge; the 400s omit the number and just say "Chimaera".

This one has either had its badge replaced with the wrong one at some point, or maybe the factory had run out of the correct ones so they just stuck this one on. I wouldn't be surprised!

It's an old car with old lights. The 500 badges only came along later

I had an M reg Chimaera 500, one of the earliest Serpentine ones (reg. Dec 1994) in 2001 / 02 and it only had the plain badge.

Ferzactly...it the 500/450 badges only came along with the tutti fruity rear lights

No exactly....taken a bit of a punt tbh.

Fernhurst have given me a good overview of what needs to be done so (possibly naively) I have taken the chance. Do you know the car?

Fernhurst won't be dishonest about what needs to be done so as long as you are clear about what it means / cost to put right, you'll be fine. Enjoy the car

That's encouraging and the impression I got from Graham at Fernhurst. I will be taking her up to Topcats after pick up for a detailed overview as they are close to me.

Spoke to him this morning, helpful and knowledgable guy. Everyone I have spoken to regarding tvr's over the last few months have been more than happy to help. A credit to the brand in my opinion.

If you are not happy with the car on inspection,you will get any deposit back,they are good that way.

My 500 has the same badge,they were introduced later unfortunately,and are like rocking horse dooo to find

Actually checking registration dates there appears, as ever, to be no logical date of change.

R123 CHM - 1/9/97
R685 FTN - 1/2/98 (Unless the 450s got them before the 500s)
R97 AOW - 27/3/98
