Range Rover Evoque MY2016 - Mrs' Run around...

Good Afternoon,
Not the most PH car, but recently we had a baby so we had to get something practical for the Mrs to ship the baba around. Living in the middle of nowhere the Mrs wanted an SUV...
Cars we looked at:
- SQ5, this was my favourite and went like stink. Although we couldn't get the right deal on what is an dated outgoing model. Plus it was £50K+
- X5 40D, this was ok, although Mrs found it too big. Plus like above we couldn't justify the price as it was also £50K+
- Touareg R Line 262, I liked this but the Mrs ruled it out. Not a fan...
- Evoque, this was her favourite and my least.
So we obviously ended up with the Evoque - HSE Dynamic 2.0TD4 (180hp 4WD) to be precise. We chose the car as it was her favourite and the Co2 emissions were so low that it was cost effective to put through as a company car. The list price and high Co2 of the other cars made it expensive BIK wise...
We picked the car up Thursday morning and have done 450miles so far (big trip yesterday). I have to admit that whilst its a bit girly its a cracking motor. The interior is head and shoulders above the rest and to my surprise it drives really well. With a decent wedge of torque and the 9 speed box it hunts along nicely and its also fairly stiff so it doesnt roll too much. JLR's media system is still stuck in the stone age, but everything else is good so far.
Took it to a friends this afternoon as he loves polishing cars, so heres a couple when he was done with it...

Ill be honest its a fair bit smaller than all the others (apart from the SQ5) and I wouldn't want anything smaller - I think a lot of people are put off the Evoque as a family car. However for now its just the 3 of us and its fine! We looked a 3 series and Id say this is the same size, just on stilts.
The other option was of course the Discovery Sport, but ultimately as a "Land Rover" product as opposed to the "Range Rover", it felt low rent in comparison, especially inside. I also couldn't bear to look at the back of it for too long and as a 7 seater its too big for what we need now....
If we decide to have another baba it will be in 2/3years and should nicely coincide with when this motor needs to be replaced.

Not at all, Evoques are great. Characterful and a genuinely decent car to drive with nice precise steering and good body control. My wife has a 2013 in very similar spec/colour to the OP. It replaced a Freelander 2 and it's just as spacious with the exception of headroom. I'm 6'4" and still fit fine, front and back. If you had 3 kids it might be a struggle but it's a fine size for us (kids are 8 and 5).
Yea Id recommend it, did another 100 or so miles today and I really cant fault it. It has plenty get up and go for a 2.0 SUV and holds the road nicely. Also a really pleasant place to sit, seats are lovely.
Parked up near the older model Evoque and it is surprising how much better our new one looks. As said above the minor changes to bumpers and lights really refresh the car and bring it up to date - it actually turned a few heads in the high street which was surprising.

I dont think they are girly in the right colour / spec - certainly they dont drive like a girly car.. Plenty of grip on road, a decent steer and pretty good off road as well 
Magnaride dampers would be a definite option for me, as well as Dynamic bumpers in manly Corris grey colour with black contrast roof, bumpers and wheels. My only criticism from driving these a lot is that I feel they need more power (about another 50-60hp would do me) and the brakes lack bite.VB only helped to design her own limited edition, that's all.
Your shortlist is similar to what mine was (minus toe-rag, plus RRS), and with the same outcome but for different reasons. The interior is fantastic, and I agree it feels a much nicer place to spend time than any of the other options. For us the decision was made because of the size and the fact my wife didn't want to drive something as big as an RRS in the city, and I wanted a petrol but it had to be sub 3.0 for tax reasons.
Did you get a chance to compare the new engine with the old 2.2 version? I'm considering swapping into a Disco Sport and the dealer has a nicely specced (and discounted) demo but it's a 2.2 SD4.

Personally I think you'd be silly to get the old engine now - especially if you are buying through a company. I cant quote the figures off the top of my head but the new 2.0 is substantially cleaner....
As far as driving goes, I havent driven them back to back - so its hard to tell. I think the new 2.0 is quieter and a bit more refined (could be a box update), but power and performance figures are the same - I doubt the typical lady driver would notice the difference! One of my OH's parents had the 2.2 in a Freelander 2 and they had a lot of issues - although this new engine hasnt had chance to show its hand yet....
Disco Sport is a nice car to be fair and actually not bad value. However I personally dont like the rear of the car, we dont need 7 seats and the Mrs really wanted the Evoque. As I said above the Evoque didnt press any buttons for me until I sat in it - I realised it was nice inside so I agreed to keep the peace!!

It isn't a company purchase, and we aren't in the UK so tax isn't CO2 based either (I think). It's more about availability and price than anything else really but I'd certainly prefer the new engine, especially as mine is the 2.0T petrol so any diesel is going to feel a bit rough.
My only problem is that when we have visitors we always have to hire a second car to cart them around and the 7 seats would solve that problem, plus the warranty is almost up on the Evoque and I've heard a few gearbox scare stories...
