This isn't just a Porsche thing and has been going on for a few years.
A friend of mine (who's an engineer for one of the big car makers) whilst looking over my 993 lamented the loss of the traditional accelerator, because a lot of modern vehicle can and will dictate under certain conditions override the driver.

My 997.2 GT3 suffers massively from this. I had the odd hairy momenta already. My OPC always claiemd that they did not find anythign unusual with the car and could not replicate the issue when going for a test drive...

In regular traffic I drive the car in high gears (3rd or 4th at that speed). No point in reving the engine to pootle around behind normal traffic in a 30 zone. The GT3 has sufficient torque to accelerate swiftly enough.So I doubt you had a hairy moment because of it !
Now imagine you are approaching a traffic light where you want to turn. You see the light switching from green to yellow. You floor it to make it during the yellow phase and now the engine goes into hibernate mode. To me that was scary enough...

Well, you might always immediately hit the brakes whenever a light turns yellow. There are situations where you need to decide between braking hard or accelarating to get over the light whilst it is yellow. You might call this bad driving. I call it judgement. I Still ask why you are in 4th at 28mph?? it's not good for the engine, you are not reving the engine in 3rd at 28 mph ! in fact you are not even in 2nd up the revs much.
A GT3 has sufficient grunt in 3rd at 30 MpH. There are laws in some countries not to produce unneccesaary noise when driving. Trundling through town in second gear at a constant 30 Mph would be called unneccessary in some countries. Police can get you infront of court for this if they really want to. They call that bad driving
Were you in one of these country's (Switzerland) when driving like this though?
My 997 GT3 did 88mph in 2nd gear and I think 3rd was a frankly crazy 123mph how on earth you need 3rd or 4th at 30mph is beyond me, even if you did a downshift to second before running the light would help.

It is completely reasonable to be in 4th at 30mph. I have driven a PDK equipped 997S that was in 7th at a steady 30 in auto mode. A GT3 in 4th at 30 has more grunt than many cars in 2nd. It is a dangerous feature. I am quite usually in 4th in my 996 Turbo at that speed. I appreciate it has rather more twist, but the point is good.

My spyder did this once or twice, usually while going for a lazy overtake with a clear road ahead. I always assumed it was to prevent "accidental" acceleration if you sneeze and jab the throttle or something. Lifting off and hitting the pedal again would convince the car you meant to do it.

there are NEVER situations where I need to decide to accelerate while the light is on yellow !!!!A pet hate is people running lights, it annoys the 'F*** out of me.
SO yes I not only call it bad driving it's f**king dangerous.
