Few questions on the above.

What is a standard 430 set at ?

I also believe this should be tested at 4000rpm, is that correct and should I push a rebuilt engine that hard so soon ?

From memory, pre MS, disconnect advance and retard, set at 28 Degrees BTDC at about 4K.

Dumb ass here never thought about checking the bible.

Thanks to Mark_s_24 for this.

"Steve Heath's bible on Page 66 says it's best left to a specialist as the value varies engine to engine & a timing gun should be used in conjunction with a gas analyser. On page 33 there is a engine specs table, for the 430 it says 34 @ 4000 rpm with Vacuum advance disconnected OR 32 @ 3750 rpm with Vacuum advance disconnected. There is a note attached to these saying that these should be used as a guide only & it should be setup dynamically with diagnostic equipment to achieve the correct emissions figures. The emission value is given as CO 1%+/-0.25%"

Although the CO can change with ign timing just set it to 28 at 4k and no it wont damage your new engine reving to 4k (so ignore the Steve Heath bit) only way you going to set the ign timing correctly is on the RR, 28 will be safe wink
