How long can the Tuscan be left alone.

I am thinking of booking a holiday (for 4 weeks), but I was a bit concerned about leaving the beast.

I use the car regularly 3-4 times a week. How would it stand up to being left in my Garage for 4 weeks. Will the battery drain ? Will anything cease?

Any suggestions or preventative measures gratefully recieved.

Nick

Unfortunatley can't get the car in the suitcase !!

I try to time holiday with a service or some other job so then my dealer gets to look after the car and I know its safe. If you have to leave it, make sure you disconnect the boot light as I have been advised that this will drain the battery.

3-4 weeks may well drain the battery. You can have a battery conditioner fitted for about £80 inc fitting that will keep your battery topped up nicely for you.

If you are leaving it more than 2 weeks a battery conditioner will be necessary as the alarm/imobliser will drain the battery. The one I have used for a number of years is £45 from

www.leventechnology.co.uk/index.htm.

They also prelong the life of your battery & detect if you have left the boot open as the amber light will stay on all the time.

I took mine out last weekend but that was the first time for 8 weeks!!! I have a battery conditioner that plugs into the ciggie lighter otherwise the battery would be flat after just 2 weeks or there abouts.

I'm told that its a good idea to start and warm up the car every 3 or 4 weeks to prevent rust building up in the bores. Something like that. Anyhow, i had no problems last saturday other than the stupid grin on my face as i flew up the A5. Its just trouser changing quick................

Had a run out to the seaside on 30th Jan. A short trip into town the following day, then put away without Accumate conditioner until yesterday, 8th Feb. Came to start it and the battery is flatter than a witch's wossname. Not accepting any charge from the conditioner, nor from a 4.5 amp charger. Tomorrow I'm planning a ride on the back of a nice yellow transporter to main dealer. So, in answer to the original question - without a doubt, get the battery hooked up to a conditioner, if only to avoid the hassle.

come on yer jokin'. that's happened to me a few times.

just take the front wheel off, disconnect battery and put a proper charger on it. It'll charge it up in a day or so.

the accumate can't charge a battery from flat.

you need to disconnect the battery for a real charge. otherwise it can bugger up car leccies and anyway, on the tuscan it won't charge..

no need for transporter.

I am surprised that nobody has said this yet, but I am sure I could find some time to look after it for 4 weeks. I could even drive it every other day !.

Only joking obviously, but on a serious note I am sure there is a company out there who looks after specialist cars, or do you have someone (very) trustworthy who could take it for a gentle run a couple of times a week, and be happy to insure thereselves ?

I bet after 4 weeks you will be itching to get back to it though !

My dealer fitted my conditioner. Get them to do it when they do the PDI and then you don't have to worry about it at all. £80 all in including fitting.

I went on my jols for a month last summer and had a CSI air flow batteey conditioner fitted by local dealer (HHC).

Cost about £80.00

Wires are behind the carpet in the passenger footwell with a little snap connector on the end.

Just pull the wire out, plug it in and the conditioner does the rest.

Came back 4 weeks later and car started like i'd never been away. ( I also left my handbrake off and the car in gear )

Hope that helps

Cheers

Phil

Or with the Accumate battery conditioner you can also plug it straight into the cigarette lighter so no fitting at all required.

Cost about £50 and should be able to pick them up from most TVR dealers or Leven as mentioned above.

I can't get the wheel off, no clearance at the side of the car while it's in the garage. I can't get the trolley jack under the car to get the wheel off. I'd have to push the car out onto the gravel at the front, then lever up the front of the car to get the trolley under. However, this morning, it's hissing down with rain and basically, I can't be arsed to get intimate with the car when I have better things to do while there are people that know what they're doing, besides, I might get dirty!
If that makes me less of a man in anyone's eyes, then so be it.
The transporter should be here in an hour.

Exactly as philmcw said.

Little wire pokes out from the behind the carpet in the passenger footwell, plug it in and Robert is your mothers brother. I use mine all the time and my battery is always topped right up.

Seems like an excellent idea. It due a service soon, probably at HHC. I can get a service and a Battery conditioner connector fitted while its there.

Most Excellent !!!

Thanks

You could also try ebay for an accumate charger. I brought two at the end of last year, both brand new. one was £27 and the other £30 including delivery (courier).

In the box you get two connectors;
1 that can be wired to the battery and then passed into the passenger footwell leaving the socket to plug the accumate into or;
1 that has two crocodile clips that could be clipped onto the battery plug under the battery.

Luckily for me there was already a lead wired in by the previous owner into the passenger footwell.

I'll happily drive it around for a few weeks for you!!

However, I'll wager you've got far more sense than to ever give me the keys.......

I'm at work, I'm bored, I've still got hours to go, and then it's a 4 hour drive home........forgive me!
