Hi Guys

I'm getting a strange loss of power when downshifting manually. It happens about 40% of the time.

When i drop a gear it engages, but then there is nothing from the throttle for a good few seconds. It's completely unresponsive.

In full auto (S or D) it's perfect. Gear changes are quick.

I've tried switching off the ESP but it makes no difference. It also seems to be worse with the paddles than the stick.

is it a torque converter characteristic?

I am pretty sure this is DSG rather than regular torque converter box and what you are experiencing is normal behaviour when you catch the box out i.e. it expects upshift but you actually do a downshift. Ot does feel weird and used to happen more on my old Leon FR DSG than it does on S4... Perhaps slightly different software.

It's the Aisin TR-80SD - which is a 'traditional' style automatic transmission.

Assuming that the 8 speed gearbox is the same ZF one in my A6 BiTDI, it is definitely not normal - it is very responsive in D, S and respond instantly to the paddles.

I would get it looked at under warranty.

It's not a ZF - it's made by Aisin.

just to revive this quickly. Could it be something to do with braking? seems to be more apparent the twistier the road. not such a problem on motorways - on a steady run

You're not left foot braking are you? If the brakes are on, many modern cars will inhibit the accelerator.

Nope. Only tried that once on track smile

Wondering if there could be a delay post braking
