Based on previous posts, it looks like a large number of us are city IT bods. Who is? Who was? Who wants out?

Get in touch with a few agencies and get in. You don't need prior financial knowledge, just enthusiasm to learn it (or as least a good fake).

Pays well, easy stuff, bit dull.

Kinda...

I'm a consultant in a particular IT field and my office is in the city. I've only actually been in the office about 4 times in 2 years though.

Yup, I'm one.
Recently turned to the dark side and am now contracting .... much better than the 5 years as a permie.

I'm just about to complete my first year as a permie... Working with 2 overpaid contractors. Pay rise/bonus coming soon... Guess we'll see if I'm still a permie after this!

and thus the eternal dilemma. Wage slavery to afford the toys, or a nice place to live but no budget for them. Not that it can't be done, its just a lot harder to find well paying jobs in the sticks.

Yup!, I'm one too. Mind you, I've been here 3 months and am still trying to work out what it is they want me to do, still as long as the timesheets get signed

Get your bonus, laugh/cry at the insult, then get on the contract ladder. Wish I had done it years ago.
Saying that, my bonuses were always pretty good, but unless you want to climb the greasy management pole (as I thought I did) forget it.
