In winter the door freezes shut

Last christmas I had a recurring problem with on the really cold nights when I came to my car in the morning / after work in the evening that I could not open it, because the door would freeze shut, and if I did manage to get it open, then the window would not drop to be able to close it again. Does anyone have any suggestions (outside of buying a house with a garage) on how I could possibly avoid the scenario this year? Last year I would have to run in and out the house with luke warm water to pour over the door to get it open.

I was told to use cooking spray when I first moved stateside. Tried it down to -49c and it worked a treat.

Washing up liquid/wd40 or similar in the rubbers to stop it freezing together.

Some silicon or Weldtite TF2 spray on the rubber door surrounds works a treat if this is recurring problem. I guess you can also use some in the window surround (top) but don't be over-liberal as you'll get greasy windows!

WD40's a bit heavy for this application - you're best off with a silicon based spray which works better with- and does not attack the rubber.

Armourall. Had the same on my Subaru with frameless doors, a quick wipe on the rubbers every now and then and it was sorted.

Another vote for Gummi Pflege here, works a treat on my car, you can buy it at BMW dealers but it's a fraction of the dealer price on EBay.

Silicon is the answer. We can get some with a little sponge applicator (like the cheapo shoe shine). But just wait until the fuel filler flap freezes shut in winter. That's guaranteed to make your day.
