This is the first tvr I have owned, And the first car I have had with a cable clutch.

It seems very heavy when pushing the pedal, should I replace the cable or can they be checked / lubricated.

I have been told that they are prone to snapping the cable, is this true, Should I replace the cable asap.

Does anybody know what make, model the cluch cable is from , I assume its from a ford.

Where is the best place to order one from.

Is there any advantage in converting to hydralic.

Many Thanks

Paul

Hi Paul

As far as I know having spoken to other owners they are all very heavy, with a very on/off feel to them.
Engine and gearbox were from 3 litre Capri so possibly so is the clutch cable.
Joys of owning a TVR you will have one leg bigger than the other.

I have got a hydraulic clutch and it is heavy too. I have tried a cable clutch car and it is noticeably, but not hugely, heavier.
Would a conversion make it a lighter pedal? Hard to say because it is a different gearbox- hydraulic clutches on m series were fitted with overdrive gearbox.

A bit of driving will soon strengthen up your left leg and you will hardly notice it!

These are mens cars!

The clutch is heavy on mine too.

As for the cable I got mine from Adrian Venn and if I remember correctly it is a different length to the Capri.

The old Granada 3000 cable is the one to use.

If you convert the car to an autobox, you'll find the clutch as light as a feather

I got a new cable from David Gerald which has a grease point half-way to assist lubrication. Take care with routing of the cable to avoid coming too close to the exhaust which could melt the outer coating and gum things up. I've a small plate fixed to the sump which keeps the cable away from the exhaust.
However, having changed the clutch recently, I still find it seems to snatch from time to time - the garage suggested I check the spindle of the clutch pedal itself (still to do!).
