911 - engine rebuild or replace?

Thought there maybe some interest in this. Apparently faced with a rebuild he could not afford, he fitted a Chevy LS1 engine. Claims it is 100lbs lighter, but he had to make a few mods to handle the torque..

I love my V8's. I own three. But a flat 6 must live in the back of a 911 or it is just plain wrong

I know a guy currently putting an LS in a 997. In fact I think he posted about it on here a couple of months ago.

So short sighted.

If he couldn't afford a rebuild why not borrow the money, rebuild it and sell it on.

Currently he has the wrong engine, hacked about mounts, he probably hasn't retained the original matching numbers engine. All he's done is creative a mongrel and devalued his car.

Part of the 911 'thing' for me is the flat 6 noise. Otherwise I genreally approve on LSx engines in anything. The more mundane the better usually.

There are two ongoing projects on P9 whereby V8s are being inserted into 987 Caymans. One is an LS7 and the other an RS6.
