Im after your views. ive just sold my cerbera and now looking to get a boxster. ive got around 24k to spend at a push and was wondering whether i would be better off getting a 2.7 around 51plate or going for the 3.2S which would be a bit older.

Is the S that much better and quicker than the 2.7.
I had a 52plate 2.7 last year as a courtesy car for a while and whilst i liked it it didnt seem that quick.I appreciate that neither will be as quick as the cerby.

Do 3.2s hold better money than the 2.7s. Didnt do bad on depreciation on the cerb so was looking for something similar.

Also where would you recommend the best place to look. ive been looking on PH classifieds and autotrader/Tm and exchangemart, but is there any other good sites to look.

Cheers

Get the S. Its a good deal more powerful. It also has uprated brakes and wheels and tyres. Climate control and so on was also standard. Well worth the money.

Handling is identical, of course. Coming from a Cerb (a wonderful machine) either car will be "gutless" - but you'll love the handling, built quality, and open roof.

I've had two...recommended.

Hi Emo - I would certainly advise going for the S - I tried both before I bought my S and the difference is well worth the extra bucks. Unfortunately due to imminent arrival of extra family member, I am reluctantly selling. It's in the PH classifieds with details and plenty of photos - the ad's about 21 days old and the reference is #35200. It's a perfect 1 owner 2002 car which I've put it up optimistically for 27.5k but am getting keen to sell so would be willing to accept a fair but less. Feel free to send me a private email if you are interested.

I also came to a Boxster S from a 4.5 Cerbera. I'm very glad that I bought the S. For me the only significant criticism of the Boxster (even the S)is the lack of power, so it just had to be the S. Not to say that the intoxicating blend of handling, ride and driveability aren't enough for me (after 2 years I still look forward to driving it every day), but if there was a more powerful Boxster available as standard and I could afford it I wouldn't hesitate to buy one! For me it was the 2-day weekend test drive that convinced me to get rid of the Cerbera.

To tell you the absolute truth, I've had a bit of a love / hate relationship with my Boxster. The car has been 100% perfect - can't fault it - but somehow I just never fell in love with it - despite getting married in it!! (Well, driving away from the church in it!). I had in Impreza Turbo before it which was simply awesome - in my humble opinion - looked like a dogs dinner and rattled like a v rattly thing but for whatever reason, me and the Impreza had a thing going on. But the Boxster, well, it's like pulling the best looking girl at the party - you work your butt off to get her and then somehow, when the thrill of the chase is over, the reality is a bit of a let down. Anyway, I know I'm in the vast minority on this board - and don't get me wrong, there ain't nothing wrong with a Boxster. Anyway, sadly my Boxstering days are behind me now.... question now is, what to replace it with...

Spend the wedge and buy an S matey, you'll not regret it....

db, sounds to me like you need a 22B or decent P1 (if you can find one!).

Along with the S having more power, the older cars were lighter than the newer ones.

Hey. You just ruled out Guard's Red and Speed Yellow! The BoxS looks fantastic in either of those. The downside is that the car gets a LOT of notice in those colours. I changed from a Lapis Blue BoxS to a Guard's Red one and was astonished at the difference in "road presence" the car had.

So if you want a "stealth" BoxS I definitely recommend the Lapis Blue (niiiice) and if you want to stand out from the crowd then loud, proud and just a little bit raucous Guard's Red/Speed Yellow is for you...

(Actually the car looks great in a lot of the colours - apart from some of the more "out there" special order ones )

Done it. Bought myself a 3.2S, Dark blue on a 51 plate. Drove it back from exeter and you guys are right , it does handle far better than the Cerb.No where near as quick, but i wasnt expecting it.Seems like a nice car though. Just hope it lives up to my expectations.
One thing i did do that I now think was maybe a bit dodgey. Bought it off a liquidation company on Ebay without seeing it first. I must be mad
