Even if you go alone, it will be an amazing gig. I didn't even know who the support would be and had heard neither of them before last night, the first act is She Must Burn, a band I'd describe as "black-metalcore" from London. They play 7 strings, heavy as hell and gave it loads of energy. The singer is certainly an interesting character and fair play to him for doing something other than the traditional "trying to look angry and hard" act that most singers do. ked up door opening and instead of opening at 19:30 the doors they let us in at 19:45. Me and my mate were pretty much the first in, straight to the front, but She Must Burn had to start right away, to an empty room at first. This also meant they didn't get much (or even any) soundcheck time, so the levels were a bit off and moved around during the set - in particular the keyboards and clean singers levels were a bit down, so she had to keep signalling for them to go up. Still, massive points for effort.
Next up was Ne Obliviscaris from Melbourne, Australia. These guys are prog-tech-death-whatever with growls, clean vocals, 7 string guitars, live violin and a bassist who is exceptionally good. These guys almost looked a bit lazy during their set, but it's a case of them being so good as musicians they barely look like they're trying. The bassist in particular obviously got lost on his way to a jazz fusion gig and looked almost bored while playing. Still, amazing songs that really struck a chord with me. In particular the opener "Devour me, colossus" was an absolute belter.
Finally, Cradle were up. The current lineup for CoF is tight as hell live, it's clear that the guitarists in particular are not stretched at all by CoF songs, so everything was super clean and tight. The drummer Martin Marthus Skaroupka, is an incredible talent - not only a beast at the kit but also the sole musical composer for the entire "Hammer of the Witches" album, as he is a classically trained pianist. The set was good mix of old and new, with thankfully few songs from their mid-career stuff, only one in fact. The old stuff still gets a great reception, in particular there is an old song they haven't played live in years, which the fans of older CoF went mental for. The mix was great with every instrument clean and a clear. Dani's vocals were great, which is remarkable considering his voice was sounding totally blown out a few years a go, but he is still a short arse. The new keyboard player and backing vocalist Lindsay School is fantastic too, not to mention a right hottie. She perhaps lacks the raw operatic power of Sarah Jezebel Deva, but is overall stronger as she has a wider range of style, not to mention she eliminates the need for a separate keys player. You can hear her Canadian accent more live than you can on recording, not a slight on her performance in any way of course. Overall, an amazing gig and totally worth the 380 mile round trip in the car to see them.

Sounds good, thanks for the write up. I last saw them about 9 years ago, (probably the last time they toured UK) so I'm looking forward to it. I will miss the supports though as I'm working but I'll probably get down there just before 8pm. I'll probably look a bit out of place given that I don't dress like a metalhead!
