6 month old defender .. underseal now?
Discussion
There's no way it can be done properly for £85.
It needs steam cleaning and then allowed to be completely dry.
Parts need masking underneath.
Then needs the underseal applying and, as been mentioned before, all box sections, bulkhead, doors need goo squidging in.
It's probably a 3 - 4 day job overall and that's in dry weather.

6 months too late.
Its the single most important thing to do!
I would expect to pay a man a day plus materials not including any prep - all in the detail.
I did my own - pressure wash - dry for a day - wash again inside chassis drain holes - dry for a day - scrub lightly with wire brush - dust off.
Then applied treatment. I used combination of brushes and spray.

£85??? From memory it cost me north of £500 to have mine done (before it even knew what a wet road was so very little prep needed vs one that had been run for a while).
You really need to send it to someone who really knows Defenders as otherwise they're unlikely to bother with the rust traps (bottom of doors etc). The recommended places near me were all booked several weeks out (one chap 2-3 months) so might be a little wary of anywhere that could do it at the drop of a hat.
If you've not had it done before, be aware that it will stink inside for a while until the solvents go off. Quite disconcerting when you pick it up...

Actually just looking at the same on my 18 month old 110.
Been quoted £500 + VAT for the chassis (hot steam clean, dry, prep etc), and an additional £300 +VAT to etch prime and repaint crossmember - both at a LR specialist in the south east.
Sound reasonable for a proper job? Not too experienced with these vehicles so any input appreciated!

I paid £600 to have it done the day after I picked it up - and that was for waxoyling the chassis, all cavities, bulkhead etc. Realised soon afterwards that even that wasn't enough or good enough to stop corrosion so have just paid £1200 to have it redone with dinitol. It took a week to do it properly. "Underselling" is worse than useless - particularly £85 worth. All the inner box sections need doing, all the chassis rails, bulkhead, the arch liners need to come off and inner wings done, battery box, bulkhead inside, all doors (which need trip taken off) - it's a proper major job. And then it needs an initial coat of the thin dinotrol to seep into all seams, and then the thicker stuff on top.

£1200 plus £600 is a lot of money. How much is a galvanised chassis 20 years down the line?! or don't they last that long. I would agree now that an £85 quicky isn't worth it now. Just wondering whether to just leave itGassing Station | Land Rover | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
