That crash test video is pretty eye opening, you'd probably be safer with no harness at all in a lowish speed crash.

Nowhere near as serious but I've been looking for some winter karting gloves lately and saw a very suspicious "Sparco" product on Ebay where some of the graphics were printed upside down and there were subtle differences in the palm grip pattern compared to the official version on their website.

That video is shocking. The metal fastening snaps like its made of cheese.
