Just got the mother of all shocks, and all over the oil/water gauge. It's on the blink and needs replacing---mine for the reasonable cost of FOUR HUNDRED POUNDS!! I know TVR bits are pricey but this is madness. The gauge is £270ish just because it's blue, twice the cost of the standard black or white ones, plus the labour to fit and good ol' VAT and were talking well over £400. If I hadn't been told by people that I really trust, I would have thought it was a wind up...oh, and lets not forget the 6 weeks to deliver

Anyone else suffered similar??

Damn, I've just looked at your profile and my Cerb has exactly the same dials as yours, with a duff water temperature gauge. The oil pressure gauge is working, but the water temp has recalibrated itself to start at 90 degrees and it winds round into the oil pressure region when warm.

I've been considering fitting a separate water temp gauge into the cubby hole under the stereo along with an oil temp gauge...

I'd be interested in taking you up on that! My parents live in Essex and that's where the car is at the moment, stranded with a failed clutch slave cylinder... I'm getting it recovered to Offords on Friday.

I work at Stansted, most of the time. I away with Airbus next week and putting a new engine in my mini the week after that, so a busy few weeks for me. I will have a chat with the guys at work and see what they say. Will let you know tomorrow.

One of these then with a blue dial?

Can you not get it repaired? Speedy Cables do repairs as they supply the gauges to TVR in the first place. They refurbished my rev counter for 40 quid plus postage.

It seems I'm not alone then. I'v decided to go ahead with the new one and will try and get the old one repaired for a back up - how long these things last seems to be a lottery.

Sounds like a waste of good money IMHO. Just take the dial out youreslf and send it off for repair or do it yourself.

Then sit back and work out how many beers you've saved.

I'm going through similar at the moment. BMW 5K for a swap gearbox.

I took it off, cost me a weekend sweat, I took it to a gearbox recond firm £140. I expect another weekend sweat to put it back on.

When my cream gauge died, I had it replaced by a black racetech gauge. I think it looks quite good as it matches the black air vent on the bottom console and keeps the symmetry.

As an added bonus, it's actually accurate

Gauge and fitting was about £100.

Hmmm... take it out and do it myself ..interesting but are YOU TOTALLY MAD!! It would be akin to ensuring my car never worked again. I've seen the trouble Brian at Fernhurst had just getting the dash cover off and I nearly fainted just watching. No - know your limitations - mine is NEVER to touch anything electrical or mechanical.

I know these Cerb's are fast but are Airbus and Cerbera parts really interchangable?

Nah you're right.

Cerb's are much better!

I'm sure TVR visted Filton when designing the Cerbera.

I thought the slave cylinder had gone on ours too a couple of years back, I discussed it with the Main dealer we used back then who agreed with me. They took the car in, got the box out (as one has to for the slave cylinder) only to find the clutch had gone - £1800 please

I didn't realise that when the multi plate clutch the Cerb uses fails, it does so with no warning at all & fails by locking solid, thus giving the same symptoms as a failed slave cylinder.

Hope it is just the slave cylinder for you...

I'm fairly certain the slave cylinder is the culprit as it has been losing a small amount of fluid from the master reservoir, which is now visibly dripping out of the bottom of the bellhousing!

I've spoken to Offords though, and am going to get the clutch replaced while it is in with them. If I don't, sods law dictates that in 3 months time, I'll have clutch finger failure or similar!

Has anyone removed the oil pressure/water temperature gauge and capillary themselves? I'm considering buying the Smiths dual gauge for temporary use and send the original off to Speedy Cables for repair...
