Abandoned B17 in Papua...story new to me...
Discussion
"Eerily untouched". It was when it was first rediscovered in the 1970's with even the glass still intact in the nose. It then got pilfered and damaged a few times by visitors on helicopter tours.
There's another largely intact B17, at Black Cat Gap, which holds a bit more interest for me as it was originally ordered and painted for the RAF, before getting reallocated to the USAAF. Weather being what it is, the paint has been eroded, and now the old RAF markings show through.
