Anyone know what's going on with them? They've had this message on their website for well over a year now....

Sounds like they're mothballing it / closing it off to any new business, something the banks have had to do a lot of since the crisis. We had a joint account with Intelligent Finance (IF), Bank of Scotland not RBOS admittedly but same thing happened. We got a letter from them saying that their account won't be offering us good value for money and that we should strongly consider moving elsewhere. Didn't even suggest an alternative within the group but maybe they're not allowed to?
i don't think they like the exposure it gives them, i've been under constant pressure for years to lower my facility, i'm thinking about extending it as were looking at new houses, interesting to see if they'll entertain that, i have a feeling not... be a shame as i love it, the flexibility is well worth the extra % on the interest rate, has really helped me out over the years and i'm sure its saved me a packet!
I have had mine for nearly 15 years now. It comes to an end in March next year and there is no option to alter or extend it. The account actually closes and you need to transfer everything into one of the standard accounts. It has really been a fantastic product for me over the years and allowed huge flexibility in relation to spending which would otherwise have needed a bit more organisation. In saying that, I am sure I opened the account on a self-certification basis and it probably could be a potential nightmare if you had less financial discipline.
We had no problem re-mortgaging, well, there were a lot of hoops to jump through compared to last time! I'm self employed so can stick big chunks off cash in it to offset. My only regret is we didn't get a mortgage like it sooner! If you have self discipline it saves thousands. Maybe they have too many customers who are a little too self disciplined!!

First Direct do a similar set up.
old thread resurrection, i just noticed FD have a similar account anyone got any experience? most importantly the rate is much better than the one account! i'd be interested to know if the flexibility is the same, i.e. i can decide one day to spend all my available facility on a 458 without having to have a discussion with anyone about it
- lol well except the wifeNano2nd said:

Used FD for 25 years and they are excellent. Had an offset account twice in that time and it is as flexible as you state, assuming you have drawdown space. Same rules for "extending" as with a normal mortgage.
cool thanks, i might investigate moving mine then, i've not been overly impressed with the one account recently... which i'm sure if intentional on their part!Gassing Station | Finance | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
