Road trip to get caged

Taking it to get a full MSA cage tomorrow.
A fair price but the jobs getting done 148 miles away! Total trip is 440 miles. Will come back with a drag race prepped Triumph 2000 and a van full of lightweight SD1 panels.

I am looking to put a roll bar in my Chim, for sprints and hill climbs, I have contacted a couple of companies, and the Sportmotive bar is looking favorite at the moment, but another option to compare would be good.

Can you tell me who is doing your cage?

If you are not going full cage, then Rollcentre Racing do a nice hoop with harness fixings that is high enough without getting in the way. But it clamps to the chassis, ie is not welded, so won't be FIA/MSA approved.

My cage is being done by a drag race buddy called David Downes. Problem was he lives near Sunderland and the trip was 148 miles the long way to avoid the worst of the steep climbs. The LDV does not enjoy hill climbing.
Its all getting done properly in Chromoly and with extra work will come to about £700.

My TR lane 4 point bolt in hoop will be up for sale.

On another note it seemed rude to come home with an empty trailer so i went to Doncaster and bought this

I don't think they have to be welded to be MSA acceptable , my wedge racer has a bolt together cage and raced for years before I got it . The full cage recently made for My chim racer is also bolt together so it better be MSA spec

I think I would drive to Sunderland to get a cage for that price , mine cost 3 times that !

wow really? What did you get done?
mine will be fairly basic 6 point with a low drivers door bar

Its solid just needs a good tidy up and painting orange.
It has a full tig welded cage, Ford 9" axle on a drag 5 link to a Hauser rear end.
The engine is a 307 Olds that runs alright but with a slight knock. Its coming out anyway to make way for a supercharged Mopar 440.
This will be a tribute race car to my best friend Tony who passed last year.

You got a pic of the door bar please?
My cage is being built to get tagged for drag racing. The door bar has to pass between my shoulder and elbow before it can drop. I am hoping its low enough so i can get in and out of the car without having to take yoga classes and losing 4 stone first.

Sportmotive roll bar as fitted to My road Chim , sits a bit low for me as it obstucts rear view a bit.....
edited to add - the full cage won't fit under a roof.

I am sure Andy Races Griffs full cage allowed the roof to be fitted on it?

If I were fanatical I would have a dedicated car just for the job and leave the Chimaera for the road and trackdays .

My caged chassis is destined to be a full racer for the track only , the silver chim is my road/trackday car .....one of them anyway
