Hi, sorry but I've been searching for ages now and getting more confused so hope no one minds me asking a few questions that are probably v.common!

Just sold a Corsa, so I transferred the insurance to my new car leaving Corsa uninsured on my drive but taxed. Apparently a buyer is coming tomorrow for it, so should I get it SORN or does it not matter now? I am wanting to sort it so I get the full refund for November.

Also, just bought a Clio from a dealer who said he'd got this car from a personal friend so the logbook has some guys name on and the yellow dealer slip is missing. However he's given us the full V5 (minus the yellow bit) but hasn't signed the registered keeper bit, so how can I send it off without that signed? I'm assuming he didn't sign it because he's not the registered keeper?

I know I'm probs being dense but it's doing my head in.

Technically an offence under continuous insurance enforcement. If it's taxed it must be insured. Best thing is to get your insurer to extend cover for a couple of weeks until it's transferred. Many/most will do it for free/a nominal fee.

If it isn't taxed, it can't be taken for a test drive legally.

OTOH, if you've received payment and have sent the V5C off to change registered keeper, it's no longer your problem...

Surely all you need is the new keeper supplement (green bit)? You shouldn't be dealing with the full V5C when you've become the new keeper. BUT - absence of the dealer slip makes me think there's a new V5C on the way to someone, so maybe a V62 application for a new registration document is needed ?

Thanks I will see if the guy pays up tomorrow and if not, I'll get back onto the insurer for an extension. I think the buyer is planning to take it the 3hr journey on a trailer, I'm assuming that means he doesn't plan on doing anything with it til he gets home but surely it still needs to be insured? But not by me I guess..

Thank you for confirming, I suspected this was the case. Bit weird because the dealer has had the car for about 4 weeks so plenty of time to sort the paperwork out I'd have thought. Do you think I should get onto him about it or is that a waste of time and I should just get a V62? What does that involve? Surely they need to do some checks somehow otherwise anyone could do that?

If it's taxed, the law says it must be insured by someone. Since you're currently the RK, you're the one who'll get any correspondence about it - that may be a fine, or it may be a reminder of the law. If he turns up, ask him to tax it, using the new keeper supplement, before he takes it away - that'll start the process of making him the RK : https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax. Or SORN it yourself as soon as it goes on the trailer.

Safest thing to do with the Corsa is to SORN it now online. With the Clio you can tax it off the V5 and then send it off with your name on it as the new keeper

Already taxed and insured the Clio, I can't send the section6 bit off without the RK's signature can I? Which is why i might need to do that V62 form that marshalla mentioned

Are there any consequences to me SORN'ing it now as opposed to waiting for new guy to sort it/me sending the V5 off? Other than saving me getting done for no insurance lol

DVLA don't care if there's no signatures on a V5.
