Bonnet release cable
Discussion
I've replaced everything relating to the bonnet - except the bonnet..! I've changed the hinges, the catches, the catch pins (with the springy part), the lights the indicators and it's all been fine.. So today I decided to do final adjustments as all the jobs are finished, but the nearside catch won't return back enough to lock onto the bonnet catch pin. Maybe a little lubrication will sort this I think to myself, so out with the oil can. No, still sticking. So I get hold of the outer cable and give it a good yank and I can see the catch is moving fine but I can also feel a rough, grornching (?) in the cable. Take a look under the steering wheel at the release lever to find the cable is frayed and causing it to snag... Bugger!
So to the question, has anyone replaced their bonnet release cable and is it something that can still be purchased?

It's a bit strange Joe, in that there's only one cable that is pulled in the middle. The release lever has a 40mm (ish) wheel which pulls on the inner cable shooting off to each catch. This gives even pressure to each catch I assume.. I'm sure I can make something up but it looks a pig of a job.!!
YEP, it is a pig of a job! I have still got the frayed ends of mine clamped together at the 'wheel' on the release lever. If you want to do it with one cable you will probably need a rear brake cable from a tandem I think, to get enough length. The outer cables are probably good enough to reuse. The problem is getting a nipple on the end of the cable at one of the catches, and getting it in exactly the right place. I have got a cable ready but I didnt want to do it until I had new catches. I got new catches earlier this year but I am still putting it off! There has got to be a better way?

are you still using the original bonnet release lever system?
No, I now have Aerocatchesbut cable and rest of mechanism is still in place should I ever decide to go back to original
