Yes, that always works.



Every year there are needless deaths on level crossings, foot crossings and general trespass.

However, it's extremely rare for anyone to be hit and killed by a train if they're not positioned near the tracks.

Simple really - stay away, stay safe.

Frustrating thing is, if they did get bowled over, it would no doubt be played out to be Network Rail's fault and quite likely Network Rail senior management would apologise instead of saying what should be said.

That's all very well but trains approach scarily quietly, you have to be continually on the lookout (eyes not ears), and be aware that they are often going a lot faster than you perceive them to be.

I've worked next to the line at Carnoustie golf course, literally 10 metres away from it, and it was always a surprise when the train came whizzing past. I would never hear it until it was right next to me. Mind you, I was never looking for it, but still, it surprised me several times a day.
