Now i bet lots of us have little fad's on how to get things done and little tools that can make difficult jobs alot easier.

1. A camping mat brought for a few quid at millets and the like can be secured to the walls of a narrow garage to make a bump stop to prevent nasty scratches on doors.

Any others?

one of them dangly magnet type things (and I dont mean my fanny magnet)

I was fitting some harnesses to an elise the other day and this was by far the most used tool for getting hold of the bolts from the seat mounts when they came loose underneath the seats.

Good finds for the S in the last 12 months have been a set of the 100W blue style bulbs which have made the most unbelievable difference to the lighting - going from crap to better than my everyday hack. And secondly, after paying out £135 for a made to measure classic additions cover for my Chimaera, we bought a £20 all weather proof cover from Argos for the S to cover it after the head gasket went and it fits like a glove and is better made than its more expensive sibling.

I`ve found that if you stick a darning needle into the leather dash it makes a great place for keeping your little fellas rubber macs, just slide `em on the pionty bit, making a nice convinient pile!!

For all of you with low or sagging front suspension, unable to open the bonnet fully - get a pair of caravan (yeah, I know) levelling ramps. They cost about a tenner and fit in the boot. Drive the S onto these and the bonnet can be hinged beyond 90 degrees if required.

Don't pick your nose whilst driving, if you need to make an emergency stop or hit a pot hole you may find that finger poking out of your eye socket.

And besides, the car coming the other way can ALWAYS see you

Serously, regarding the camping mat on the garage wall, I do this with a sheet of foam rubber and I also use it to kneel or lay on whilst working on the car, very useful indeed!

If you ever remove the door panels...

Replace the M4 nut inside the panel with a wingnut.

Saves the knuckles don't you know..

Interestingly, I have always wondered why you'd need to do this because my car has them bolted on but not through the inner door skin, so the panel comes off in one without having to ubolt the arm rest handle thing through the speaker hole, which was what we had to do with Tim's car last weekend, when all became clear....

Ahh he's a nice chap really, very diplomatic too!

Back to topic of the armrest, it appears larger holes have been cut in the inner doorskin of my car so that the bolts protrude through the hole and don't have to be removed.

On the subjet of garages: A length of 2-by-4 on the floor sideways across the front of the car provides a handy end-stop when you drive in.

A leatherman tool. (expensive but there are cheaper alternatives)

Quite expensive but very handy. Problems opening the boot whilst away from home were quickly solved with my "multi use tool".

Petzl Tikka Head torch. (about £20 i think)

Uses white light LED's and is very bright. Changed the pads on our lass' Fiat last night quite easily with only the head torch for light.

There should be some very large washers on the bolts that hold the armrest to the inner door frame, the wing-nuts should go on top of the washers...

I can't think that your door is easy to close using the arm rest / handle if its not secured...
