I very infrequently (about twice a year) get a really bad tension headache. Its normally when I have slept funny and got a knot in my neck.
The only thing that could touch this is Syndol. This hasn't been available for ages for some reason. I have one of those headaches now and went to Boots to see if it was in.
They had loads, but when I got outside I realised that they aren't the same and the muscle relaxant (the thing that worked) is no longer in them.
Anyone know WTF is going on and if you can still get the old ones?

I am in the same boat as you. My BIL who is a pharmacist recommended these to me, I have bad reactions to a lot of pain killers but these really worked for me.
According to my local pharmacist the company that made them were bought out by another company, and they would have to reapply for the license to manufacture them. Apparently there is issues with the muscle relaxant part of it so the license was rejected, so it can longer be made.
According to my GP the closest they could prescribe is diazepam for the muscle relaxant. Talking to a consultant at work the best muscle relaxant are cannabis or alcohol!!!!!
I currently have 6 syndol left which I am saving for true emergencies! I also have diazepam but that is for a herniated disc!

Annoying. I overhead someone talking about them in a pharmacy a while ago and they were saying you could still get them from South Africa with the muscle relaxant in.
I am so dubious about buying stuff like that over the internet though, no idea what you are actually getting.
Its not a big deal for me as it is so rare but sometimes the headaches can make you need to lie down and these did used to get rid of them.

Syndol is a brand name for a formulation of paracetamol, low dose codeine, caffeine, and, I believe it used to contain Doxylamine Succinate? Which as the above says seems to have been removed from the formulation. If so it's actually an antihistamine.
All medicines are created equal. So if you were to source paracetamol 500mg x 2 Paracetamol, codeine x ??mg, (or purchase the new UK Syndol) and some Doxylamine Succinate, with a cup of coffee you'd be all set.
They use Doxylamine in sleeping tablets. So you'll need that coffee;

You could probably get it cheaper if you found another generic in the UK which uses the same generic medicine in it's formulation. The British National Formulary would be a good starting point.
With the greatest respect however, it is very difficult to see how this drug actually helped alleviate the pain you describe. That would perhaps be the true reason it was dropped from the formulation.
I'd stick with a traditional NSAID and if prescribed, Opiate, if it was me.

The O/H is in the same boat, they've not been available for years now. She basically does the above now and it seems to work.
