Depends what you're after but Steinhart do some very nice watches for around that budget.

What style do you want?
If looking for a Pilot style I rather like these and am considering pushing the button out on one for my next purchase:

or

Divers?

Magrette do some nice ones too at very reasonable prices:

They also have two new ones not released to the EU yet but available from the main site:

http://www.magrette.com/the-timepieces-leoncino-w....

Also look at Tissot though at that price you're probably looking at a quartz movement.

Christopher Ward do some nice looking watches but for some reason I've never felt the urge to buy one:

thanks lads some nice watches there, to much choice is my problem I think lol. I tend to lean more towards the divers/motorsports style.

If they weren't quartz I'd be tempted!

Mid range Seiko diver:

Tissot automatic chonograph:

I personally really like the look of the Steinhart Triton. If I hadn't already ordered an Ocean 1 Titanium I'd probably got for a Triton 100 ATM.

CW have a 50% sale on at the moment, including some of their new spec Tridents, which seem a bargain at £299 (if you can live with some of the odd colour combinations...).

A left field choice from a manufacturer that has reputation for high quality watches. The downside is, it's only available to pre-order and it's £50 over budget. However Japanese automatic movement, sapphire glass with AR coating, ceramic bezel and 500M water resistance ...

If you like your divers have a look a Squale - they really are very nice quality watches all round in my opinion. Plus they are quite classic and not oversized - some of the modern choices are a bit playschool for my tastes and I have big wrists!

thanks for a point in the right direction guys. Looked at a few reviews on youtube, looks like its going to be a Steinhart diver either a vintage red or 44 auto.

thanks again

Not everyone's cup of tea but I love mine, especially as I can see it at night due to the size.

Not sure if this would bother you or not, but the Steinhart Vintage Red is a copy of a Rolex Sea-Dweller. Not trying to rock any boats here as I know Steinhart has its fans and they have a reputation for being very well finished, but I would be tremendously annoyed if I found this out after spending £300 on one. Especially after the first half a dozen times of having to explain to people that, no it isn't a Rolex.

Very few non-nerds would ask if that was a Rolex, imo - it doesn't look like any Rolex in recent memory.

That said, I really wish Steinhart would put a lid on their Rolex homages irked
