A garage companion for my E21.......

The 323i is a keeper (she's been on Reader's Cars before), but I've always had a hankering for a big wafty British thing, ideally from my favourite decade - the 1980's. As always, there is a back story; this one began in 1986 at the Birmingham Motor Show when I first saw this car in the metal..... Granted, she's not as pretty as the curvier Series 3, but after years being offered for spares or repairs, the best are now commanding appreciating prices. Having missed the boat on the R107 SL, E28 M5 and a host of other desirable metal, I made the decision to add another classic (?) to the fleet and invest some of my money that is sat in a bank earning zero interest. So here she is. 1989 Jaguar Sovereign 3.6 Auto. One gentleman owner from new, full service history and 48,000 miles on the clock. Granted, the sensible thing to do would have been to invest the money spent back into the Bavarian, but we are talking about a love for cars here and sometimes the heart has to rule the head. The word 'garage companion' is a little misleading as well, given that they will not be kept together. Having spent £600 future proofing the Discovery, I'm keeping fingers crossed the old brit is going to behave herself... but in the meantime, the main problem I have is deciding whether to take the E21 on her second outing to Le Mans, or if I should take the Jag....

Looks lovely. Very classy in a striking colour with a beautiful interior.

Would I take an old German compact car with a little engine- or a classy luxurious Jaaaaag with a 24 hour winning engine to Le Mans, no contest!

'old'.... I think the word you are looking for is 'classic'. The drive down last year was great fun and the 'small six' got a lot of attention. The Jag would be a different experience though....
