Jogging - not all its cracked up to be
Discussion
Have just collected the missus from hospital following a 24 hour stay, following a short jog... After tripping on a kerb, she bounced along the tarmac, slicing the back of her head, collecting a number of grazes and bruises and breaking her wrist in three places. Now feeling a bit sorry for herself, as this was the start of her grand plan to move from half marathons to the full monty.
Just offering this as a "be careful out there" to anyone who goes jogging - lycra shorts may not protect you.

I never 'jogged' - I ran (40 miles a week + at least one fell race and p'raps a 10K).
I never knew about the number of people that suffer serious injury to their musculoskeletal system. Apparently 50%ish have to hang up their trainers due to problems developed by the illness...be careful out there folks.

I have always believed that all exercise is bad for one's health. Hence I only exercise in bed
Show me someone who diets and exercises, and I'll show you someone who belittles themself.
I still maintain round is a perfectly valid shape to be in. Built more for comfort than speed..

another problem with jogging is the people who suffer from heart attacks after they have finished...
The reason this happens is the heart is obviously working much much harder to pump the blood around the body... when people just suddenly STOP at the end of a run the blood pools down low in the body around the legs etc and the heart that is already still pumping hard has to work EXTRA hard to pump the blood from the legs etc back around the whole body... whereas if you are still moving then the blood does not pool down low in the body and your heart and lungs can bring your system back down to normal easier and safer...
Top tip= When you have finished a run, KEEP WALKING, until your breathing and heart rate return to normal!
Or lie down!
Am I the only person who sees the irony of a jogger jogging down a busy road with no pavements?
So, let's see, you're jogging to keep fit, right? And presumably that is so you live longer? And you're in a position where you could be mown down by a car or lorry? Errr, ok.
The other irony is I know several people who were fitness freaks when they were younger and now suffer from bad backs and other medical complaints that affect their everyday lives.
Blackadder: "Baldrick, have you no idea what irony is?"
Baldrick: "Yeah, it's like goldy & bronzy, only it's made of iron."

God, just run on grass fields, not pavements. We're not designed to jog on hard surfaces, our feet are designed to sink partially in soft ground. This is a major cause of joint and back problems.
Walk on a hard surface, and your foot twists horizontally each time it lands, damaging the knee. Walk on soft soil, and it sinks slightly.
Don't believe me? Rest your foot lightly on the ground, and see how it behaves. Then push it down, and watch it twist. Now do the same thing on your sofa.
