Saw these jobs today and wondered if anyone has experience of working in IT @ any F1 team. Or the application process. Is it all it's cracked up to be ???

Like lots of these industries that sound all glamorous and you will be exposed to great people / tech.
But I imagine as there is so much demand to work there , they work you harder and pay you less.
But would be interesting......

Going back a few years I managed a big team of people and one of the girls had a boyfriend who worked as a gearbox mechanic for Williams at the time.

Being an F1 fan I asked all the obvious questions and the story is that its very long hours for less than equivalent pay in a non F1 engineering firm. There are high paid jobs, but not for the troops.

Apparently it does come with some benefits such as £10k bonus for winning constructors, good car scheme, subsidised gym/canteen. Redbull use to do similar.

I'm not in IT but I do work for an F1 team. I can definitely say that the pay is usually well above the norm for most roles across all fields (in the big teams at least, personally it's around 13-16,000 a year more for me than an equivalent job outside an f1 team) and In my experience they definitely don't work you harder either - quite the opposite really.

For me working In production it does get very busy during the winter... depending on exactly what sort of IT role you would be doing this may be the case here as well. In my job this means a bit of overtime (not horrendous amounts, im a contractor, perm staff do even less overtime as they're salaried) most jobs outside f1 with a decent salary expect a lot of you but at a decent team where money isn't really an object you usually have everything you need to do your job well and as unstressed as possible.

At the big teams the money is good, the environment is great and the perks are usually also rather nice. Mercedes & Red Bull are the best teams in the UK to work for money wise, and as someone said, there is a decent bonus for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the constructors. Mercedes have a rather good car scheme too.

You do get to meet some cool people and go to some great parties, get the odd free gift/item of clothing, tickets etc. I wouldn't say it's glamorous but it's usually a good gig whether you're an engineer, IT worker, receptionist or whatever! I'd of retrained by now if it wasn't for working in f1, it's the only sort of company that makes my job bearable, so that must say something.
